Books to Read this Summer

My undying love for Young Adult books now reached The Touch of Yellow. This is not out of nowhere, gals, because I have been planning to feature books here since forever! And now that summer already started, and you find yourself at the beach without any mobile signal, bringing a book with you is the greatest internet alternative. So yeah, I have here a few book recommendations that are perfect to read this summer. Let’s start with..

Snow Like Ashes Series
If you’re into fantasy, then this one is for you. Snow Like Ashes has the most unexpected twist ever! And isn’t the title itself makes it suitable to read this summer? Snow Like Ashes is about Meira. Meira is an orphan. She is a Winteranian. The Kingdom of Winter was conquered and its citizens enslaved, leaving them without magic or a monarch. She is in love with her best friend who also happens to be the future king of Winter. Meira would do anything to matter, to help her kingdom rise to power again. She is not just an orphan girl longing for love – she is a warrior, a hero. But the twists of events leave her wondering what truly her destiny is.

The Siren
The cover is enough for me to choose The Siren as one of the books to read this summer. It may be a little slow at first, but it will be good as the story goes on. It’s about Kahlen, a Siren. She serves the ocean using her voice – it is very powerful that anyone who will hear it is as good as dead. But when Akinli, a human, enters her world, she can't bring herself to live by the rules anymore. Suddenly the life she's been waiting for doesn't seem nearly as important as the one she's living now.

Dorothy Must Die Series
Got no summer vacation plans? Well, the Dorothy Must Die series will take you to a whole new Kingdom of Oz! Imagining the Yellow Brick Road and the Emerald City gives me the summer-vibes. This time, though, the Oz is different. The yellow brick road is crumbling, the Good Witches can’t be trusted, and the Wicked Witches may just be the good guys. The then-hero Dorothy Gale is now the enemy. She came back to Oz and wants the magic all to herself because, well, she saved the kingdom after all. Little did she know is that there is a new girl from Kansas, Amy Gumm, and the Wicked Witches are there to train her to fight. And kill Dorothy.

Sweet Temptation / Sweet Trilogy
An extra book from the perspective of the bad boy, Kaidan Rowe? Why not?! If you haven’t read The Sweet Trilogy yet, then you better should. The trilogy is about the sons and daughters of fallen angels. Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel the emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

The Great Hunt
I haven’t read this book yet. But come on, a book inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ tale “The Singing Bone”? I am so in! Totally adding it to my TBR list.

Do you have a book that you’d like to read this summer? I would love to hear some recommendations from you. J

I Completed my 2015 Goodreads Reading Challenge! Again!

I have completed my 2015 Goodreads Reading Challenge again this year! How great is that?! I mean, this year has been the busiest I’ve had and I definitely had no time to read at all and I get to finish 54 out of 50 books! Although it’s only half of my 2014s’ goal, I’m still proud of myself. Okay, maybe not that proud because I got to have a lot of book hangover over the year that I can’t update this blog frequently. Can you blame me? ^^

Enough with the blabbering, here are the books that kept me busy, daydreaming, and swooning.
I would have simply written a list, but I guess I am that lazy to do just that and decided to take a screenshot instead. After all, I know you’d love to see how pretty the covers of each book. And I also remember that perhaps you’d like to (or not) know what are my favorites among them all, so yeah, I still get to write a list.

In no particular order:
The Rose Society by Marie Lu
Loving Mr. Daniels by Brittainy C. Cherry
The Perfectionist Series by Sara Shepard
Sweet Temptation by Wendy Higgins
Cinder & Ella by Kelly Oram
Serial Hottie by Kelly Oram
Jamie Baker Series by Kelly Oram (we need the third book, Kelly!)
The Avery Shaw Experiment by Kelly Oram (yeah, she rocks!)
The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige
Confess by Colleen Hoover (another page turner from this amazing author)
The Naturals Series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

There might be three or four titles that I didn’t enjoy much, like the Cracked Up To Be by Courter Summers because I simply don’t the heroine. Like, at all. Let’s leave it like that, okay?

What books have you read this year? Have you read anything from my list? And if you have a recommendation for me to read next year (that’s tomorrow!) I’d really appreciate it. FYI, I like Romance, YA, chic lit, dystopian, Sci-Fi, and Mystery genre. Adult fiction works too. Ssshh..

P.S. I'm currently reading Also Known As by Robin Benway and I'm halfway done! Oh, advance Happy New Year too! 2016 will definitely rock.

First Book Haul: April 2015

I can’t really call myself a bookworm. Yet. After completing my 2014 Reading Challenge at Goodreads, I realized that I don’t really own that much of a physical book. Almost all the books that I read are in ebook format. I love ebooks, don’t get me wrong. Since I always have my phone with me, I find it really easy if my books are in my phone too. But it just feels different if you have the book.

Starting this April, I promise myself to buy at least three to five books a month. Well, maybe three lipsticks too. I’m struggling, seriously, on what I should buy first, a book or lipstick. Given that I have enough lipstick, I did a little hauling and bought these books. Hey, it’s my first book haul! Let’s see what I got.
The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige
This is the sequel to Dorothy Must Die. If you’re into magic and witches, you’ll surely enjoy reading the series. Danielle Paige certainly captured my interest; I can’t wait for the next book.

Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang
I’ve been told that if I enjoyed reading the 13 Reasons Why, then I will definitely like Falling Into Place too.  They are so right! I was holding back my tears when I was reading this, I have to hide from my sister because I was crying ugly and I know she’ll laugh at me.
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
Power is a dangerous game. Well, that tagline is enough for me to grab this book and start reading it right away. Plus, the cover is a badass! I’m currently reading this, it’s really interesting so far.

That concludes my first book haul. The Red Queen is the only one left unfinished so I guess that calls for another book haul. Hollow City, Seeker, Better than Perfect, and A Thousand Pieces of You are on my list. Any recommendation on what I should read next? I would really appreciate it! J
